It’s the thought that counts, right? The worst holiday gifts ever

December 21, 2017 By Jennifer Azara

As a woman in leadership, you pride yourself on being detail-oriented.  And while you know you like to put thought and effort into gifts, especially around the holidays, these folks definitely didn’t.

Here are the worst holiday gifts ever exchanged at work, BusinessInsider.com found:

  • A bunch of stationery from the company supply closet
  • A broken ornament
  • Expired canned food
  • Too-small, company-branded apparel
  • A pad of paper
  • A used Yankee candle
  • Used plaid tennis shoe (yes, just one)
  • Old backpack full of old shoes
  • Piece of cake that was already being eaten at the party
  • A bottle of Axe body wash and a card that read, “Take a shower.”
  • Handmade quilted chicken
  • A lampshade made out of egg cartons
  • Live fish
  • Oversized pencil (1 ½ inches in diameter, 12 inches long)
  • A fake lottery ticket
  • A book about using playing cards to predict the future
  • A rain stick
  • A live lizard
  • A shoebox with a ping pong ball inside
  • Two left-handed gloves
  • A meat injector
  • A real stuffed duck
  • A jar of gravy

About Jennifer Azara

“I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading.” -- Amy Poehler, Actress

I’m thrilled to have recently joined Progressive Women’s Leadership in the role of Managing Editor. I’ve worked as a writer and editor for more than 18 years, covering a variety of “beats” from CFOs to warehouse workers. But this is the one I’m most excited about. The key to editorial success is to be in constant contact with your audience – find out what info they need, what keeps them up at night. Then work tirelessly to give them that with every story. I want our site to be the first resource you go to when you have a challenge at work. This bossy woman is ready to get down to business!
